A dog is said to have diarrhea when it has watery or loose stools, an increase in bowel movements and a larger amount of stool than normal.
According to dogdiarr.livejournal.com, Imodium can be used to treat dog diarrhea. The active ingredient in Imodium is Loperamide which works by reducing the intestinal muscular contractions (motility) and the secretions that cause diarrhea in dogs.
It should be noted that Imodium has its side effects like any other drug and should be administered with caution. The common ones are mild constipation and bloating and not so common in some dogs, is pancreatitis.
Imodium should not be given to dogs with allergies to opiates, dogs that have a disease of a major organ(kidney, lung etc), nursing or pregnant dogs.
Take time to consult with a Veterinarian before administering Imodium as treatment for your dogs diarrhea.
